Research Practice
Deloraine & Westbury Medical Centres are “Research Active Practices”
D&WMC are very proud to have taken part in research projects over the past few years and ongoing into the future to promote better health outcomes in the future.
We have worked with UTAS and the PARTNER Network on several projects that we feel are a priority for the community that we serve. Including the Terracotta project which is a study in asthma and COPD from Monash University, and with Flinders University on a Peer Support Mental Health study.
What does this mean for patients?
As a research practice, we are part of studies that involve de-identified data being shared, this data is used to inform the Department of Health regarding, for example, flu epidemics, prescribing information etc. This helps us constantly monitor the quality of our work and keep up to date.
You may at times be offered the opportunity to be involved in research studies which D&WMC have agreed to support. The practice’s level of involvement may range from simply having identified a suitable group of people from our database for an external researcher, being asked to complete questionnaires or survey, through to being a research site recruiting to a Clinical Trial of a new medication or treatment.
All clinical research is approved by ethical committees, thus ensuring it is appropriate and safe to perform.
How can you help and take part?
You may be contacted via a phone call, sms or email if we identify you as being eligible for a study. You will always be given concise information about the study and what will be involved. You will also be given the opportunity to ask questions and if you agree to take part in a study there will be a consent form to sign. If you decide not to take part in a study there will be no change to the care you receive from the practice or your GP. You can also opt out at any time if you wish.
